The Gift of Faith
The Gift of Faith
The Bible mentions the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11:
"The Holy Spirit works in each person in one way or another for the good of all. One person is given the gift of teaching words of wisdom. Another person is given the gift of teaching what he has learned and knows. These gifts are by the same Holy Spirit. One person receives the gift of faith. Another person receives the gifts of healing. These gifts are given by the same Holy Spirit. One person is given the gift of doing powerful works. Another person is given the gift of speaking God’s Word. Another person is given the gift of telling the difference between the Holy Spirit and false spirits. Another person is given the gift of speaking in special sounds. Another person is given the gift of telling what these special sounds mean. But it is the same Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, Who does all these things. He gives to each person as He wants to give."
In the past two days, I have encountered two incredible souls who seem to have the gift of faith. To me, the gift of faith is to be able to see beyond your current situation and through uncertainty, trust God's faithfulness.
Just like most of these gifts, people are often presented with opportunities where they will be positioned correctly to tap into these gifts. However, more often than not, the opportunity is far from ideal and sometimes even unwanted.
My playlist picked up the Yes Song by artist KB. I was instantly drawn to it because it contained so much sorrow wrapped up in the only thing that was left - hope in God. One verse particularly stood out to me:
You know when you can't discern if life is a sentence or purpose
This song is what I feel true, real, raw faith is like. When everything else is taken away, who do you turn to? What beautiful faith. It led me to look up KB's story and I found the video below.
The very next day I came across an article titled: Mother of Conjoined Twins with One Heart Gives Birth, Provides Soul-Stirring Update. After reading this woman's story and words, I was astonished at her faith. What incredible, uplifting words spoken through the most painful experience. May God Bless her, her husband and their beautiful baby girls.
Both encounters really left me in awe at these Christian's faith and pondering the reality that faith is truly a gift from God. Hope in what seems to be a hopeless circumstance.
I'll end with the main chorus of the Yes Song:
Yes, I will lift You high in the lowest valley
Yes, I will bless Your name
Yes, I will sing for joy when my heart is heavy
All my days
Yes, I will
May God Bless you and the Peace of Christ surround you.
